Headquartered in Miami, Florida, International Bonded Couriers, Inc. (IBC) was founded in 1979 by the Company's President, Joseph F. Costigan to develop the courier and express delivery market in South America.

Joseph F. Costigan began his air cargo career in 1966 working as a driver for Shulman Air Freight. Three years later he emerged as owner and operator of Patriot Airlines, an all-cargo air taxi which made use of surplus World War II aircraft. IBC developed out of Mr. Costigan's prior air freight forwarding business, Air Progress, Inc., formed in 1971.

Upon becoming a contract agent for Allied Air Freight in 1976, Mr. Costigan gradually gained an intensifying awareness and interest in the developing courier market. At the same time, he recognized the profitability in shipping small packages versus freight coupled with the tremendous potential in the then-untapped Central and South American and Caribbean markets.

The Company's transiting gateway was initially established in Lima, Peru and serviced the continent's western coast. This location was in close proximity to the financial center in Lima, from where IBC collected and transported priority remittances from major banks in Peru to New York. By 1982, IBC had expanded its operations to serve all destinations south of the United States, including the Caribbean Islands.

Today, IBC boasts the express industry's most comprehensive network of company-operated courier routes between the United States and the major business centers of Central and South America and the Caribbean. The Company services its niche market through gateways at 39 international airports, including seven in the U.S.A. IBC's Miami gateway directs operations into Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, while its operations in Houston provide a gateway to Mexico. Additional gateways to Europe and the Pacific Rim are located in New York, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sydney, and Hong Kong.
